Health Insurance Coverage and Legal Issues:
Non-European International Patients

The information on this page is relevant for:
  • Privately Insured Non-European International Patients
  • Non-European International Patients with a Private Supplementary Insurance
  • Non-European International Patients with State Health Insurance

In general, it is not possible to make any clear statements regarding coverage for non-EU patients. The vast majority of legislation, as well as the majority of insurance contracts apply only to EU member states. Having said that, for all three insurance situations, the cost of treatment in Germany is usually not covered. However, there are also certain exceptions for all three situations.

We recommend that you clarify the situation with your insurance company and send them a cost estimate prior to treatment as appropriate.
