The 20.000th Alpha Klinik knee patient successfully operated on by Dr. Toft
Mrs. Inge Groh, a 68-year-old German patient was welcomed today as the 20.000th patient to be operated on in Alpha-Klinik`s Knee Department. Dr. Toft performed abrasion arthroplasty and corrective osteotomy on her to save her knee from replacement surgery. This type of surgery stimulates the body to form new cartilage where the original cartilage had been worn down to bare bone. With over 5.000 such interventions, Dr. Toft looks back on the world´s largest series of joint-preserving knee surgeries as an alternative to an artificial knee joint. In a study published on this website, amazingly good results are reported in the vast majority of cases, even ten ore more years after the surgery.

Professor Juergen Toft helps 70-year-old Terrence White to go back to his passion of mountain climbing after surgery three years ago that preserved his knee joint through biological repair known as abrasion arthoplasty with osteotomy. Three years after this procedure Mr Terence White climbed Mount Grossglockner, Austria’s highest mountain.
