Can clouds sing? And what does friendship actually look like? The answers to these questions were provided by children in the Bavarian capital, using paint and brush. Munich was the host of the First European Children's Festival of Art and Creativity. The dreams, fears, aspirations and visions of children from all over Europe and representatives of all continents were given free rein between the 27th and 31st May 2006. The motto was children flying the flag for colourful and peaceful cooperation.
This project, brought to life by the International Child Art Foundation, was under prominent patronage: Munich's mayor, Christian Ude, and Bavaria's General Musical Director, Zubin Mehta, were supporters of the children's artistic venture. At its conclusion, a wonderfully coloured, 100 metre-long banner flattered from Munich's Olympia Tower as a bright, fluttering symbol of the meeting of cultures. A unique event, for never before could anything be hung from this Munich landmark. |

The children's art festival was supported by Dr. Jürgen Toft as sponsor. Ultimately children and youngsters need art as a method of learning how to see and hear, as a school for experience and perception. To view and personally create artwork promotes the visual receptiveness of children. "Making art" can be a trigger for positive change.
No wonder then that a number of internationally prominent figures were invited as guest speakers to the children's festival, such as Sheikha Lubna Al-Kassimy, Minister of Economics of the United Arab Emirates, and Louise T. Blouin MacBain, the renowned publisher of notable art magazines, art collector and dedicated advocate of the notion that creativity can encourage greater understanding and peace beyond cultural frontiers.
A further reason for Dr. Jürgen Toft to dedicate himself to children's causes. Sweta Toft: "We are delighted if we can help to give children the opportunity to develop their creative and communicative skills." Through playing, the children at the festival were able to exchange cultural experiences with one another as "ambassadors" for their countries and certainly dispel one or the other prejudice.
