27. Mr. E.J.: A 41-year-old computer scientist from Holland who had received a synthetic ligament in the '80s that didn't last and could no longer play sports.
The 41-year-old Dutch computer scientist Mr. B had ruptured his frontal ligament in 1984 - an injury that was treated with a synthetic ligament implant that didn't last. In addition, a further operation in 1988 did not result in any improvement either, and the patient was subsequently unable to play any sports - something that bothered him greatly. Except for an artificial knee joint, Mr. J was not informed of any other alternatives in Holland for the treatment of his condition. An abrasion plus osteotomy was performed in October 2003. These images were taken during the follow-up surgery in April 2003 and clearly demonstrate the success of the treatment. Mr. J is no longer has any discomfort and has taken up playing sports again.
