19. Mr. B.B.: A 54-year-old sports teacher who received a ligament replacement in 1975 that didn't last, which resulted in additional sports injuries and ultimately acute arthritis.
54-year-old sports teacher Mr. B tore his frontal ligament in 1975 and was given a carbon fibre ligament replacement. The replacement ligament didn't last and resulted in a series of other sports injuries, which in turn led to an acute case of arthritis. He was unable to teach sports and also felt significantly restricted in everyday life. The patient underwent an abrasion plus osteotomy in April 2003. The second operation, performed in October 2003, showed excellent cartilage regeneration as well as the re-emergence of the medial joint line. This season - at the very least - he intends to go skiing again, and if the knee continues to develop so well, Mr. B is thinking of taking up other sports as well.
