18. Mr. A.W.: A 76-year-old retired lawyer who had severe pain in his left knee and couldn't walk further than 50 metres.
The 76-year-old retired lawyer Mr. W suffered from such severe pain in his left knee that he couldn't walk further than 50 metres at a time. Due to his age, the advice he got from all sides was to have a total knee joint replacement - which he did not want. An abrasion plus osteotomy was performed in May 2003. The phenomenal results of the procedure can be seen on the following images, which were taken in October 2003 during the follow- up surgery. Mr. W. no longer has any problems with his knee and is currently undergoing physiotherapy.
