9. Mr. T: A 62-year-old civil servant who had a medial meniscectomy in the 1960s and subsequently developed severe medial osteoarthritis.
62-year-old civil servant Mr. T underwent open medial meniscectomy in the 1960s and subsequently developed severe medial osteoarthritis. Osteotomy was suggested to him, but the prospect of the denuded bone (i.e. the cartilage has degenerated) being further denuded did not appeal to him, so he came to Dr. Toft who performed abrasion in combination with an osteotomy in April 2002. The following images, taken at the time of the rescope in January 2003, show the new cartilage and the reappeared medial joint line (see green arrow). The patient is very satisfied with the knee and has started to undertake longer walks and hikes.
