6. Mr. R: A 56-year-old, self-employed car mechanic who had an untreated knee fracture in his youth, but went on to actively play a number of sports for many years until the problems became acute.
The 56-year-old self-employed car mechanic Mr. R had been a soccer and tennis player, and had a knee fracture in his youth that was overlooked and left untreated. In spite of this handicap, he later took up skiing and even went on to be a so-called trick skier for many years. When he consulted us, the knee was in bad shape both clinically and radiologically - as can be seen in the pre-operative x-ray. Having been discouraged and put off by other orthopaedic surgeons, he underwent abrasion and osteotomy here in July 2002. The hardware removal and rescope were in January 2003. The results as shown on the arthroscopic views and x-rays are excellent. The patient is very happy with the knee and intends to resume skiing.
