Results of a prospective StudyThe average age was 44 years. The female / male ratio was 31% / 69%. Follow up rate 93% (494/532 patients). At the two year follow-up 95,3% of the patients reported an excellent or good result, 4,3% a fair and 0,4% an unsatisfactory result.
In both (leg and back pain) a significant improvement recording to the VAS scale was reported. The average back pain value improved from 8,6 points pre operative by 7,1 points to 1,5 points at two years. The leg pain improved from 8,5 points pre operative to 1,2 at two years, an average improvement of 7,3 points as well.
According to MacNab criteria: 51% of the patients felt fully regenerated, 42,9 % felt their efficiency to be slightly restricted, 5,7% felt their efficiency noticeably restricted and 0,4 % felt unaltered.
In 10 cases an early recurrent disc herniation (<3month) appeared (2%). 16 patients (3,2%) were treated for recurrent disc herniation. 10 of those in our own centre, 6 elsewhere. No significant complications were reported. 2 patients (0,4%) had a thrombosis and 1 allergic skin reaction was seen.
