Former Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Dato´Seri Anwar Ibrahim underwent today a complicated, 1 hour and 45 minutes, spine operation at the Alpha Klinik in Munich.
Besides 6 years of solitary confinement in a Sungai Buloh Prison, Mr. Anwar has suffered of a slipped disc and subsequent spinal stenosis for more than 3 years.
Dr. Thomas Hoogland, Chief Spine Surgeon at the Alpha Klinik was very pleased with the complicated operation as he, assisted by the Malaysian Neurosurgeon Dr. Halili Rahmat, succeeded to completely free the compressed nerves with a minimal invasive procedure (the Alpha Klinik speciality). 3 hours after the operation Anwar was able to walk again to his private room at the hospital.
Mr. Anwar will remain hospitalized at the Alpha Klinik for several days and shall, subsequently, undergo an intensive rehabilitation that will be commenced at Alpha Klinik´s rehabilitation department. Mr. Anwar is reported to be in poor physical condition due to the long imprisonment and will need to regain muscle-strength, lost due to the long confinement.
Dr. Hoogland was happy to see, that his patient, despite suffering from strong pain, has remained remarkably positive and in excellent mental shape.
Dr. Wan Azizah Ismail, wife of Mr. Anwar Ibrahim, was grateful about the recent events and is looking forward to her husbands’ recovery. As soon as her husband is recovered he will return to work for his ongoing goal of a more safe, peaceful and democratic world.
